 Trampolining clubs are starting to pop up around the United States and Canada, demonstrating fitness the growing popularity of trampolines. Clubs cater to people seeking new skills to master, sports teams exercise looking for new conditioning methods, and special-needs children. Autistic and Downs-syndrome children seem to respond instantly to trampolines says Maria Martin who runs a trampoline club in Ontario. "If they don''t pay attention, then they fall down," says Martin. "Often these children have a hard time learning new physical sills, but this is a very protective environment and they can experiment without hurting themselves. They fitness love to learn and they respond so quickly." Trampolining as a sport, has struggled significantly because of careless instruction that resulted in exercise many injuries, but the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games will host the first trampoline competition. "Where do I start?" said Leland Tilden, a Toronto high-school student, when asked how his fitness has improved since he started trampolining. He decided to use a trampoline as rehabilitation for is injury, and he can''t stop jumping. "I find that if I am going to slip on ice, I can catch myself," he said. "I find that my balance and body awareness are better. It has helped me in the everyday world." Round frame pads cannot be resewn or patched. Rectangular frame pads can be resewn and their clips can be reattached. The frame parts and the springs cannot be repaired. Only one person should jump on a trampoline at a time.
